Cold aisle containment
Seal the corridor
between two rows of racks.
Panels on top, doors at both ends, seals at the gaps. Aisle widths start at 1,000 / 1,200 / 1,800 mm.
Industry research estimates that in a traditional data centre about 60% of the cold air returns to the return grille without passing through the equipment. Containment solves exactly this 60%: it separates the cold and hot air streams so that the same cooling capacity can serve denser racks. With containment, a cold aisle containment system can reach a per-rack capacity of 20 kW; the comparison figure for traditional raised-floor air supply is 7–8 kW per rack.
| Component | Design points | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Ceiling | Load-bearing cross beams + transparent panels; the panels are quick-release by hand; two ceiling heights, 60 / 200 mm | Standard data sheets |
| Ceiling (interlocked) | Solenoid lock 12 VDC / 200 mA, opening by gravity, can connect to fire alarm or BMS | Standard data sheets |
| End door | Single / double / sliding / café door; door height 90 in or 96 in; window in flame-retardant polycarbonate | Standard data sheets |
| Gap seals | Five places: door frames, rack top, rack bottom, both ends of the aisle, between racks | Standard data sheets |
| Blanking panels | Fill empty rack units; 1U–8U and 20U in several heights; EIA-310-D compatible | Standard data sheets |
